This book reminds me of another book I read about a Slave during the Civil war, who has no family. Isabel is told by another young slave boy that she will gain her freedom if she acts as a spy for the patriots. Her master is a very important loyalist who has very important role in the war and is helping the British. This story takes place when the Revolutionary war is going on. But when their Mistress dies they are sold off to a cruel master and mistress who mistreat them terribly. Ruth meant the world to Isabelle “She means the world to me, she is all I have”. This book was about a young slave girl and her sister Ruth who’s Mistress promises them their freedom when she dies. This book would be classified as historical fiction. I read the book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson for this Reading Program. The rating I would put for this book was a 9. I thought this book was very interesting and was a life lesson. Madam said she is gonna get you arrested if you don't leave,' Isabel was telling Curzon that he needed to stay away from her and the Lockton's or else Isabel and Curzon were going to get in trouble. One quote was, 'You thought I didn't own her anymore, didn't you,' said Madam Lockton talking to Isabel about Ruth. So one day the girls found out they were going to be split apart from each other and they would have to fight to be be back with each other. We should all be greatful for the things we have, like a house to live in and food to eat and think about others more then ourselves. Thinking back when they had to fight for food, had no rights, and be beaten to death for something that they never did made me think how precious our world is today. This book kind of reminds me of how the world was during the Revolutionary War and when there were so many slaves fighting for their freedom.

Now the question is, will Isabel get caught in trying to find her sister? Will Isabel and Ruth ever be free and have their own freedom? One morning, Isabel woke up to find her sister missing and Isabel was heart-broken, she wanted to know where her sister had gone and she would figure out where she was. If Isabel gets caught in the act, then she could get in trouble and possibly get her self killed. Curzon told Isabel and Ruth that they would have promised freedom. A slave named Curzon that Isabel met, convinced Isabel to spy on Master Lockton, who is a Loyalist and has given away details to Isabel that could get him into trouble. Isabel and Ruth have to find a way out of the Lockton's house. They are sold to a horrible master and mistriss when their former slave owner dies. There are two slaves, named Isabel and Ruth. This book takes place during the Revolutionary War. It is written by Laurie Halse Anderson, and can be classified as historical fiction. This story is also different because of where the town is and how it is there in the town. The events that the town was running out of food, clothes, and so many other things like some people do. This also reminds me of how people in the world don’t have as much of things that you have and are poor.

This story reminds me almost like the Magic Tree house series by being almost like a mystery, but is also a little different and is more unpredictable than the series.

I could relate to the character of Clary because I like to help others. This story connects to me by reminding that you can’t run away and avoid problems in my life. Murdo, who takes care of Lina and Poppy, there’s also Lizzie, Lina’s friend, Clary, Lina’s other friend, and Looper a guy who works at the storerooms. Some characters are Lina, Doon, Poppy, which is Lina’s sister, Grammy, which is Lina’s grandmother, the mayor, and Mrs. From there, when Doon draws his job, says, “…Ember is not prospering… Everything is getting worse.” It was true disaster was going to hit Ember in supplies and in electricity. When Lina one of the main characters along with her friend Doon have assignment day at school. In the book The City of Ember, By Jeanne DuPrau, there is a city called Ember, which is always dark and is only light by flood lights.
